A Day Out On The Train
We know that very often it's not the price of accommodation that makes a holiday un-affordable but more what will be spent during the holiday. This is especially true when there are children who need entertaining or who a
re being tempted by ice creams, attractions and gift shops. In this series of blogs we look at ways to keep the spending down by suggesting things that will help keep what you spend to a reasonable level and things that can be done for FREE.
For many people (and especially children) a trip on a train is an exotic activity! It's something that they don't do very often OR HAVE NEVER DONE!
Given that this is a blog about making your holiday more affordable I'm not for a minute suggesting the Ffestiniog Railway or the Talyllyn Railway (sorry guys) which are great journeys but would probably blow your budget.
I'm talking about a trip on the Cambrian Coast railway - a "real railway".
The Cambrian coast line runs from Pwllheli to Machynllyth and beyond. The railway runs very close to the coast in places and crosses the iconic Barmouth Bridge and the sands at Pont Brewit. It passes below Harlech Castle and not far from Criccieth Castle too. See the full route HERE
Before you tell me to stop... this sounds expensive...
Take a look at the price of their Day Ticket HERE and you can jump on and off the train anywhere along the way.
Might be an idea for a cooler day? Take a picnic to eat on the train and go off and explore! Make memories together.
