Visit Harlech Without Going Into The Castle
We know that very often it's not the price of accommodation that makes a holiday un-affordable but more what will be spent during the holiday. This is especially true when there are children who need entertaining or who are being tempted by ice creams, attractions and gift shops. In this series of blogs we look at ways to keep the spending down by suggesting things that will help keep what you spend to a reasonable level and things that can be done for FREE.
Harlech Castle is a draw to Harlech for many people. It's history, its location and its construction are all incredible. But does the entrance fee fit into your budget? The walls and the towers can all be seen from outside and its history can all be read online (sorry Cadw).
Make more of your visit to Harlech for free by finding and following The Meirion Trail. This is a series of storytelling chairs around the town, telling the story of Meirion and the Golden Torc, the battle of Meirion and the Morfeirch (giant seahorses). The trail is about 1.5 miles long and takes about 2 hours to complete. At each "chair" scan the QR code to be taken to The Meirion Trail website to hear the next part of the story. The story doesn't need to all be completed at once but would make a lovely afternoon out around the Town and to "sneak" a walk in too.
Also worth a mention is Harlech beach. Miles of sand with almost nobody on it! Unfortunately the car park is Pay & Display and a little walk across the sand dunes from the beach, BUT a spectacular beach to visit!
