This is the 1969 western starring Terence Hill but today I'm not talking films.
Have you ever driven over the Crimea Pass between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Dolwyddelan (A470)... stunning isn't it? But I bet that you've never noticed a nondescript brown hillock off to the side of the road. If you did spot it and stopped to take a look you'd find that it was composed of scrap nails, rusted eyelets and heel irons from old boots! Our area has many bizarre tales and forgotten bits of history but apparently this is the scrap from when the Market Hall in Blaenau Ffestiniog was commandeered around World War II, as a factory for the repair of work boots! Rumour has it that this "heap" smouldered for years and that this is all that remains now.

There is a lay-bye on the top of the Pass and it's worth stopping to safely take in the view (and THIS point was apparently the site of an inn and brewery back in the day!). There are several walks from paths across the road (see the OS Map).
This site is about 20 minutes drive from Cadair View Lodge's accommodation in Trawsfynydd.
