Cardigan Bay extends from the Lleyn Peninsular down to Pembrokeshire and has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation. This means all of the sea off our local cost - off Pwyllheli, Criccieth, Porthmadog, Harlech and all of the coast to Barmouth and beyond, attracts some amazing sea life. Things that you might not expect to find off the coast of Wales.
It is not unusual to see dolphins in Snowdonia - off Criccieth, Porthmadog and Barmouth (see this Facebook group). You just have to keep your eyes open. Probably best to watch mornings and evenings. And, unfortunately, there have been quite a few whale strandings each year (Pilot whales, Minke and Sperm whales too) which means that there must be larger whales in the area regularly too.
And turtles! I hear you say "surely there are no turtles in the sea in North Wales?". Have a read of our blog HERE to find out more about Leatherback (and other turtles) around the coast of North Wales.
So next time that you're at the coast keep an eye out for some of these amazing creatures. Join in the #30DaysWild project each June and find out more about the World around you.
