Bala Lake Railway
Journey along the shores of Wales' largest natural lake. The return trip from Llanuchllyn to Bala takes about an hour. You can break your journey at intermediate stations perhaps for a lakeside picnic.
Cambrian Coast Line
Not a steam train but a spectacular journey along the coast from Pwllheli to Aberystwyth (or further!). Along the stretch the railway crosses several bridges over wide estuaries, passes castles, golden beaches, bustling harbours and seaside resorts.
Corris Railway
Like many of the other narrow-gauge railways in North Wales, Corris railway was built to serve the slate industry. Corris is unusual in that it has a 2ft 3in gauge.
Fairbourne Railway
The Fairbourne Railway runs two and a half miles between Fairbourne and Penrhyn Point where it connects with a ferry which takes passengers across the Afon Mawddach to Barmouth (seasonal).
The full round trip takes 60 minutes and all trains are normally steam hauled. Pay once and you can ride as many times as you want all day!!
There is also an indoor nature centre and a railway museum, both of which are free to enter.
Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway
This line now runs for around 40 miles from Caernarfon on the coast to Blaenau Ffestiniog in the mountains. The central hub is still on the harbour at Porthmadog.
A fantastic way to spend the day or just a few hours. Fantastic scenery and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Lots of events throughout the year.

Snowdon Mountain Railway
Britain's highest railway. In a tremendously ambitious feat of engineering, and uniquely in Britain, a rack and pinion railway was built which rises to within 66 feet of the summit of the highest mountain in England and Wales. Talyllyn Railway
Pay once and ride all day! Travelling through beautiful countryside this railway was opened in 1865 and runs from Tywyn on the Mid Wales Coast inland to Nant Gwernol. The return trip takes just over two hours, but with so many scenic places to get off to picnic or walk it is easy be turned into a full day out. All trains are stream hauled. LICENSED FOR WEDDINGS!
Welsh Highland Heritage Railway
Also in Porthmadog but their station is down near to the Porthmadog mainline train station. Their website says that they're a bit different and they certainly are. For a start your ticket doesn't just give you a ride on a train but also access to an interactive museum, a children's farm, the chance to help the guard turn the train around and a ride on a miniature railway too. Best of all your ticket lasts all day so you can do it all as many times as you want.
